A Conversation about Mental Health

A Conversation about Mental Health is a mental health focused event that wants to bring students together in a safe space where they can watch a short movie based on youth struggles, listen to a speech on the matter and participate in a creative activity that will allow them to express themselves on our mental well-being canvas.

What is the purpose of our event?

A Conversation about Mental Health was created for students who want to take part in an event where they can feel understood and supported. Being a young adult who needs to balance studies, social life and building a career can be an overwhelming period in one’s life. We want to bring people together and show them that they are not alone in this struggle.

During our event, our participants will have the opportunity to watch a short movie, listen to a speech on the subject of ‘mental health among youth’, ask our speaker questions and participate in a creative activity.

Our short movie is based on testimonies from KCL students who have candidly talked to us about their experiences with mental health as students. We hope our participants will be able to relate to them and see that there is nothing wrong or shameful to go through tough times.

Our speaker (soon to be announced) will talk to us and give advice on how to handle this period better.

The creative activity we have planned is meant to bring us together through the making of a canvas on which our participants can express themselves freely, whether that means drawing, painting or even writing something. At the end of our event, this canvas will stand as proof that we are not alone and that there is beauty in figuring this period in our lives out.

Background Inspiration

Our event was influenced by the theme of our festival, “embracing youth”. We asked ourselves what it means nowadays to be a young person and we agreed that one aspect of this period in our lives is often times overlooked: the mental health struggles. Given our shared interest and experiences on this matter, we decided to organize something that will help our fellow students feel seen and understood.
