Re2tro

Re2tro is a curated festival of unique experiences open to the public on 14th of December from 1pm to 4pm. Spearheaded by sustainability and consciousness, it aims to move the fashion conversation forward through wider youth participation and co-creation. Events include professional speaker sessions and designer workshops around slow fashion and upcycling. Our ambition is to create new accesses for a more sustainable lifestyle in everyday life, for everyone.

Re2to is a festival that is open to anyone who wants to join us in this co-creation experience. This venue is intended to not only raise awareness of the importance and value of fashion sustainability, but also to involve and inspire more participants to join the cycle of recycling and remaking from consumer practice. Re2tro is a place where allows the clash of minds and the spark of creativity, we are more than delighted, ready to share every bit of "crazy" idea with you!

During the three hours of our session, there will be two main activities for our participants: the panel discussion about sustainable fashion which host by our beloved professor Dr. Joanne Entwistle and the Jean-remaking workshop for everyone to participate and create their own tote bags with recycled jeans.

Description of our event!

What does Re2tro mean?

Re2 means remake & recycled.

Retro means vintage, our recyclable fashion style.

The homophonic is 'retry': a call to take action to remake old clothes.

What to expect during the Event.

  1. One hour's panel discussion with Dr. Joanne Entwistle (45 minutes speak and 15 minutes Q&A session). This lecture would give a general introduction about Sustainable Fashion, focusing on the consumer practice (craft, recycle, remaking), especially what young generation could do for the nature.

2. Jean-remaking Workshop with our talented convenor Cheung Yu from UAL.

This workshop is a free space for everyone to be creative and design their own fashion item (tote bags). We would like you to bring the jeans you don’t wear anymore (we also provide some vintage jeans, tools, materials, and sewing machines) and see what we can do to turn this into an artistic work together.

Come and join us!

What was our background brainstorming behind our event?

The motivation for wanting to present the concept of "Sustainable Fashion for everyone" in our exhibition stems from our own experience as a young generation who has been greatly influenced by the concept of ‘Fashion’. In one sense, fashion allows us to express our identities and preferences; however, the fast-changing nature of fashion trends and the mature global production chain have resulted in many serious issues such as labor exploitation, pollution, and massive amounts of waste. Since fashion has such influence in our daily life, and we all want to discuss more about them, this made us come up with the idea of ‘Re2tro’. ‘Re2tro’ made us to think as responsible consumers and curators, what can we do to better enjoy showing our creativity and identity through Fashion, and to keep a sustainable lifestyle in everyday life, for everyone. This venue is intended to not only raise the awareness of the importance and the value of Sustainable Fashion, but also hope to encourage more people to involve and participate in the cycle of recycling and remaking. We hope more and more people will renew their idea of ‘Fashion’ by joining us, trying to get some creative inspirations to achieve the sustainability of fashion in our daily life.
